Don’t Waste Tax Credits
Federal tax credits aren’t the only way to save money on energy-efficient products. Many state and local governments, as well as, local utility companies encourage energy conservation with low-interest loans, grants, and rebates that can substantially reduce your costs.
You can locate these programs through several different sources. The first place to check is your local utility company. Almost all utility companies promote conservation because it’s cheaper and easier way to meet power demand than building new power plants.
Some states and governments also employ officials specifically to deal with energy issues. They can give you up-to-date information on available incentives. You can find their contact info at www.naseo.org – National Association of State Energy Officials, or simply call the information phone number of your state government.
The Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) also maintains directory of incentives in all fifty states – www.dsireusa.org.
